PNS

In view of crowds for the growing number bodies cremated at the Swargadwar in Puri, the district administration would acquire 1.53 acre of land for expansion of the cremation ground.

This was decided at a meeting of the Puri Municipality on Friday.  Concerned people can lodge their grievances to the district Collector about their problems due to the expansion project.

All necessary facilities would be made available at the Swargadwar. The transformer would also be replaced from the ground. Sitting arrangements would be made for the families and relatives of the deceased at the ground.

Around Rs 1 crore would be spent for the expansion project of the Swargadwar, sources said. The Puri Konark Development Authority (PKDA) has been entrusted with the responsibility for land acquisition.

Notably, some influential people have been opposing the administration’s decision. According to the decision, the 1.53 acre of land would be acquired close to the Swargadwar from private parties, for which heavy compensation would be paid.
