Mafia don Sushant Dhalasamant was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here on Wednesday after he fell sick in the district jail. Sushant had resorted to a fast-unto-death since he was shifted to the jail here on March 30 alleging that he was shifted from the Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar without any valid reason. He also alleged that police have framed him in false cases.
A team of doctors from the DHH was monitoring his health regularly and had advised him to take food. However, Sushant continued his fast, following which he fell sick. The twin city Commissionerate police had shifted Sushant to the Balangir jail after it alleged that he was successfully running his network from Jharpada jail and conspired to bump off some contractors, who had declined to pay him extortion money.
The matter came to light after a contractor in Cuttack Sadar area escaped an attempt on his life and police managed to nab a notorious criminal in connection with the case. After his arrest the nabbed criminal spilled the beans.
