Supply boats, nets to gale-hit fishers: BJP

PNS

After visiting  the cyclone affected areas of Ganjam, Chhatrapur, Gopalpur and Brahmapur city, national vice-president of BJP Kissan Morcha Rama Chandra Panda informed that that the poor fishermen had lost fishing nets and boats worth Rs 10 crore.

Besides, he said the farmers of the areas had been hit hard as vegetable crops like tomato, cabbage, cauliflower and green chilly worth Rs 50 crore had been totally washed away.

Attending a Press meet here, Panda said the victims of Ganjam and Chatrapur blocks, Gopalpur NAC and Brahmapur city encountered huge loss which was unprecedented, while shockingly, so far as relief was concerned, they got too little too late.

Panda further alleged that though the Chief Minister had conducted an aerial survey of the post Phailin damage at Augastinuagam village, yet no relief had yet been reached to the cyclone affected victims. Every cyclone affected family should be given two sheets of polythene, one quintal of rice and 25 kg of dal, Panda demanded, adding that immediate supply of boats and fishing nets to the fisherman of Ganjam, Chatrapur and Gopalpur could only enable them start their livelihood afresh.

Panda described the cyclone aftermath of Brahmapur city as alarming as the Government, he said, had failed to remove hundreds of trees and electric poles which were still lying on roads. The Government had also failed to restore power supply in the city, he complained.

MP Dharmendra Pradhan, former Minister Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, Sameer Mohanty, Bhrugu Buxi Patra, district BJP president Bijay Kumar Swain, Kanhu Pati, BJP Youth leader Bibhuti Jena, Dharanidhar Behera and State BJP executive member Saroj Sabat were among others present.

Meanwhile, angry villagers of Augastinuagam detained local MP Sidhanta Mohapatra during his visit to the village protesting apathy of the Government in supplying relief.
