The wife of a deceased migrant labourer has been running from pillar to post here for some financial assistance so that she can go to Goa for taking possession of the body of her husband for last rites, which was recovered by the Goa police. She has returned empty handed even after trying to meet the District Collector of Sundargarh in this connection.

According to sources, Yasobanta Dehuri (30), a native of Bus Stand Pada of Sabdega block, had been to Goa about three months ago as a migrant labourer since he got no work here. Yasobanta was engaged in a private company as a labourer. After his departure to Goa, his wife Pyas was staying alone at their village along with three kids. However, recently, Pyas received a phone call from the Goa police, informing about the sudden death of Yasobanta in a mishap.

The police officials informed her that they established his identity after getting his contact number and address from a sheet of paper from the body. They asked Pyas to reach Goa at the earliest for identifying the body.

Pyas was aghast to hear the news but she could not proceed immediately to Goa due to lack of money. She approached here and there but is yet to be successful.  “I have approached a number of people, including inspector in-charge of Talsara police station but unfortunately nobody has come to my rescue. Finding no other alternative, I reached at the Sundargarh Collector’s office and requested to help me to reach Goa. However, the authorities asked me to wait for a day or two as they wanted to be confirmed about the death of my husband,” said Pyas.

When contacted, ADM Rabindra Mishra said, “We have asked the Additional SP of Sundergarh to confirm the matter with the Goa police. We’ll make necessary arrangements for Pyas’s visit to Goa after being confirmed about the case.”
