The Sundargarh District and Sessions Judge on Monday sentenced five persons to life imprisonment in connection with a gangrape case on December 25, 2012 in the district.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each accused and in default to undergo another one year in prison.
Sources said a 20 year-old girl and resident under the Kutra police station in the district was returning home after celebrating Christmas when the accused waylaid her and gangraped her.
later, the girl had lodged with the Kutra police after registering a case had arrested Pius lakra (30) Sabir Kumar Rajhans (31), Muna Minz (32) lukas Minz(30) and Rabi lakra (32)and forwarded them to court. All the five accused were sent to Sundargarh jail and they were behind bars since then.
Pronouncing the judgment in the case, District and Sessions Judge Manas Ranjan Barik, examined as many as 20 witnesses and held all five accused guilty in the gang rape case.
