Sukinda BJD MlA Pritiranjan Ghadai on Tuesday demanded immediate shutdown of the Tata Steel plant at Kalinganagar as the plant is responsible for the spread of dengue in Kalinganagar and its nearby areas. Ghadai also staged a dharna in front of the main gate of the plant along with many workers protesting against the plant authorities’ apathy towards providing a healthy environment to the workers in the plant.
“Around 40,000 workers including hundreds of locals work in the plant. It is high time the State Government took steps to close down the plant temporally,” Ghadai said.
The General Manager of the steel plant assured the MlA that the company is doing everything possible to ensure clean environment at the plant.
