The Odisha State Human Rights Commission hearing a case transferred to it by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has sought an action taken report from the ADG Prisons and Director of Correctional Services and the Brahmapur SP on the case of under trial prisoner (UTP) being critically hurt in a gang war in Brahmapur Jail on December 26, 2015.
The SHRC asked the aforesaid authorities to submit a report by March 31, 2017 on an UTP Hari Behera being injured in a gang war due to the negligence of the jail authorities and being treated at the MKCG Medical College Hospital. The human rights body wanted to know the fate of the case (No 198/2015) registered in Baidyanathpur PS and if any FF has been submitted in the case.
Similarly, in another petition filed by a rights activist Sangeeta Swain with the NHRC and later transferred to the OHSRC, the Commission has sought a report from the ADG Prisons and the Jagatsinghpur district on the group clash in Alipingal Jail in Jagatsinghpur on September 7,2015, which allegedly has been suppressed at behest of the SP violating human rights by the jail and jail authorities. The OSHRC sought an action taken report by March 20, 2017 from the ADG prisons as well as the Jagatsinghpur SP.
