In the three-tier panchayat election, during the withdrawal period of the nominations, 323 candidates withdrew in Subarnapur district and 3,144 are left in the field.
Three nominations, out of total 52 for the 13 Zilla Parishad (ZP) seats were withdrawn .Similarly, after 57 sarpanch candidates withdrew, 411 candidates are in the field now.
Seventy-eight candidates withdraw for the panchayat samiti (PS) member posts leaving 378 candidates in the field.
The valid nomination for ZP seats stands at 504 and for sarpanch and PS members, the numbers are 411 and 378 respectively. Similarly, for ward member posts, while 2,305 candidates were in the field, 185 candidates withdrew.
Notably, in the 2012 panchayat elections, a majority of the seats were captured by the BJD. This time also the ruling party is making all out efforts to improve its position. But the BJP and Congress are trying their level best to challenge the dominance of the BJD.
