A final year girl student of Home Science department in Sambalpur University has brought sexual harassment allegation against a non teaching staff of the university’s examination control cell.
The accused is on contractual job but because of his job in an important department in examination control cell, he has been indulged in such practices since long, it is alleged.
The girl in question being grossly disturbed by frequent calls from the staff and even at times indecent behaviour expressed the matter to her class mates who also told the similar problem they face. But they had to tolerate everything since the staff was threatening them of manipulating their marks in the examinations.
However, the girl who protested it and wanted to bring the matter to the notice of the authorities told her problem to the father of one of her friends who is a former Minister of the State. Realizing the gravity of the allegation, the former Minister immediately discussed the matter with the head of the department (HoD) and also Vice Chancellor Prof Deepak Behera.
Meanwhile, the accused has requested the former Minister not to make any written complaint with the VC of the sexual harassment cell. At the same time, other staff members have also come forward in support of the accused.
