In a bid to check corruption and reduce the menace of brokers in the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in the State, the Transport Department has decided to appoint student volunteers.
Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda, in a letter to all the Regional Transport Officers, has directed to expedite appointment of students as RTO volunteers.
As per an order by the Home Department to the Transport Department, the RTOs have been divided into A, B and C groups for appointment of student volunteers. A remuneration of Rs 90,000, Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 for a span of three months has been fixed for 12 student volunteers in group A and group B and four in group C, respectively.
The volunteers would be on duty from 11 am to 2 pm. While the remuneration amount would be transferred to their bank accounts, they would also be provided with uniforms, sources said.
Initially, the volunteers would be imparted training by RTO officials.
