A Class-X student was found dead on railway tracks near Machapada under the Baisinga police station in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
He was identified as Bijaya Nayak, a student of the Gopabandhu Sikshya Niketan School in Machapada. Bijaya was spotted on the railway tracks with critical injuries early morning. He was rushed to a local hospital, where the doctor declared him brought dead.
On being informed, the Baisinga police seized the body and sent it to Baripada Hospital for postmortem. While the exact reason behind the student’s death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the boy was killed after being hit by DMU train at around 5 am, when he went outside to attend nature’s call. Later, locals locked the school gate alleging laxity in duty by the teachers.
The protestors alleged that such a incident occurred due to the absence of hostel warden. “Not a single teacher is staying with the boys in the hostel,” said locals.
