Artists of the Vanedemataram group staged a street play Meri Jaan Hindusthan at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here on Wednesday appealing to the general public to observe the Independence Day with patriotic fervour.
“It is matter of great concern that the Independence Day is being celebrated only in Government offices, schools and colleges. The general public does not observe the day which is a shame to our freedom fighters. Hence, to make people aware about their (freedom fighters’) contributions and dedication and importance of the Independence Day, we staged this play,” said Chittaranjan of Vandemataram.
The artists sang patriotic songs along with performing dances. They took a pledge to contribute towards the country’s development.
The group members too distributed nearly 500 national flags to commuters, urging them to observe August 15 with patriotic feelings.
