In a dramatic turn, the students of the MKCG Medical College here, just a day after postponement of their 10-day-long agitation, on Saturday resumed their strike protesting against relocation of the Sardar Rajas Medical College (SMRC) medicos.

The agitating students on Friday had called off their protest following talks with officials, including Health and the Family Welfare Minister, RDC (Southern), Ganjam district Collector and Brahmapur SP.

On Saturday morning, the aggrieved students resumed their strike by staging dharna in front of the college by locking the administrative block of the institute. On Friday, a joint delegation of agitating MKCG and VSS Medical College students had met Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and conveyed their resentment of proposed accommodation of 85 students of 1st year and 24 students of 2nd year MBBS course of Jaring-based Sardar Rajas Medical College at MKCG and VSS Medical Colleges, respectively.

“We will continue the agitation till the State Government takes a fair decision. We will oppose the relocation of SMRC students in our college keeping in view the staff crunch and poor infrastructure,” said MKCG Medical College Students’ Union president Ramapada Mahapatra.

Meanwhile, sources said the officials, including the Health Minister has reportedly assured the students efforts would be made to put the additional infrastructure at place and asked the students to refrain from agitation and to allow the students of SRMC to take admission in their college by December 9 failing which it would lead to contempt of court.

The High Court last month had directed the Government to relocate the SRMC students in Government-run and private medical colleges by December 9.
