The Kendrapada Medical Banchao Milita Kriyanusthan Committee on Saturday put on hold its 54-days old agitation in front of the district Collector’s office, demanding a City Hospital at the old DHH campus, after an assurance by the district administration in this regard.
According to senior Congress leader Ganeshwar Behera, who was spearheading the agitation, a three- member team of the district administration, including ADM Pitambar Samal, CDMO Anita Pattnaik and SDPO Jayanta Mohapatra came to the dharna spot and showed a letter of the district Collector recommending to the Government for setting of a City Hospital at the old DHH campus following which the stir was put off.
District Collector Amrit Ruturaj in his letter dated February 2 has written to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, urging for setting up the City Hospital considering the demands of the people of various wards of Kendrapada Municipality and nearby 4-5 GPs who were dependent on the DHH till it was functioning at its old location. However, after the DHH was shifted to its new campus, these people are facing difficulties in getting proper health services, he said in the letter.
Besides this, the district Collector also urged for appointment of three specialist doctors, including a medicine specialist, a paediatric specialist and a gynaecology specialist at the Urban PHC that is operating at the old DHH building in Khadianga. He also urged for round- the-clock ambulance service at the UPHC and more beds.
ADM Samal said a fresh notification has been published on March 15 for the engagement of three specialists in the UPHC.
Notably, the members of Kendrapada district Medical Banchao Milita Kriyanusthan Committee earlier have knocked the doors of the Governor, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, the Health Minister and the Chief Minister for fulfillment of their demand. Meanwhile, the forum warned of intensifying the agitation if the district administration fails to fulfil the demand soon.
