Now, it has been a fashion by the corporate house to make big promises at the time of public hearing for the expansion of their projects but once public hearing is over ,they forget all their promises.
This has come to light on October 31 when one Abhimanyu Das working as SI was seriously assaulted in a police-public conflict and the police, in return, arrested six tribals.
Sources revealed that some two years back Jagannath Steel and Power Limited situated at Olibur near Barbil, when PK Alluwalia was its Managing Director, had promised to fulfill different promises of local villagers raised during the public hearing held for the expansion of their projects but after the hearing was over, the company didn't bother to look after the interest of the local people.
Moreover, it is alleged that the company continued its expansion by illegally encroaching upon reserve forest land and adivasi land and when there was public uproar against the pollution and illegal encroachment of land, the company quelled the stir with the help of local police.
Of late, there has been a change in the ownership of the company and the new company management of Jagannath Steel and Power has been installing pipe line on the land owned by adivasi people of near by Hajipur village which was strongly objected by the villagers.
