Two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured South Korean President Park Geun-hye in Myanmar that his Government would offer full support for establishment of the mega steel plant proposed by Posco in Odisha, Union Steel Secretary Rakesh Singh will visit State on Monday to review various ongoing and proposed projects, including Posco.
He will hold discussions with Chief Secretary GC Pati and Steel and Mines Department officials about the hurdles resulting in the delay in execution of the projects.
The Steel Secretary will also discuss several issues of SAIl with the State Government officials. Sources added Singh and SAIl Chairman CS Verma would discuss the issues with the State Government.
The SAIl proposes to enhance the Rourkela Steel Plant’s capacity to 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) shortly. Among other things, the SAIl wants to settle contentious issue of iron ore royalty.
Sources said the SAIl’s Raw Materials Division is desperate to get new iron mines in addition to the existing ones at Barsuan and Kalta in Sundargarh district and Bolani in Keonjhar.
