Although Phailin and the resultant heavy rains had dampened Durga Puja and laxmi Puja in the Steel Township last month, weather was very much conducive during Kalipuja and Diwali that were celebrated by the denizens here with gaiety and fervor.

On November 1, rush was witnessed in different bazaars due to Dhanteras and people were seen busy shopping forgetting the effect of the natural calamities. The next day, Goddess Kali was worshiped at many puja mandaps here with tradition and gusto. “In more than 50 pendals, Kali Puja is going on here and it will go on till Wednesday,” sources said.

The prominent mandaps that are witnessing rush of thousands of devotees everyday include Railway Colony, Basanti Colony, Daily Market, Biraja Pali, Tapaswini Market, Biraja Pali Old Station, Civil Township, Fertiliser Township, Sector-6, Sector-20 and Sector-2 puja mandaps

However, Diwali was low key in comparison to previous years here as people opted for decorating their houses with colourful lights only and avoided going for firecrackers.
