State urges Centre to provide NPR data

PNS

Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue & Disaster Management Department Taradatt has written to Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India C Chandramouli to provide the National Population Register (NPR) data to the State as soon as possible in view of the urgent need following the twin disasters of cyclone and floods in the State.

The State Government needs NPR data to use them for purpose of undertaking relief measures as these data come handy for the convenience of the district administrations, said a senior official of the Department of Revenue & Disaster Management.

When Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Secretary Anil Goswami had visited the State on October 20, Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra requested him to hand over NPR data as the MHA is handling the census-related digitised database for the States. Cooperation Department Secretary Bishunpada Sethi, who is also the State’s Director of Census Operations, too has written to Dr Chandramouli to share the NPR data to the State.

Though the NPR database for Ganjam district has been received by the State Government, it shows only names of the heads of the households and the total number of the family members in the households. But the NPR database of all the villages and towns of the State is needed along with selected items like names of persons in full and resident status, sex and date of birth of the households, Dr Taradatt has stated in his letter to Dr Chandramouli.
