The Union Government has granted in-principle approval for establishment of six more Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs) in Odisha. With this, the number of STPIs in the State rose to 10.

The new STPIs would come up at Jajpur, Sambalpur, Jeypore, Angul, Rayagada and Kalahandi. The four existing STPIs are at Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Brahmapur and Baleswar. State Information Technology (IT) Minister Pranab Prakash Das had in July placed a demand to this effect.before Union IT Minister Ravishankar Prasad at New Delhi.

Notably, STPI has been set up as an autonomous society under the Union Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to promote software exports from the country.
