The State Government has set a target of collecting Rs 4,600 crore of excise revenue from sale of alcoholic beverages, informed Excise Minister Niranjan Pujari in the State Assembly on Monday while replying to a query.

Pujari said the Government had collected Rs 3,925 crore towards excise revenue in financial year 2018-19; and now, it has set a Rs 4,600-crore target for this fiscal ending March 2020.

Notably, the Government had surpassed the target of Rs 3,800 crore last financial year. It has already collected Rs 970.50 crore by June-end this year.

All this indicates an ever-rising trend of consumption of beverages like India-made foreign liquor (IMFL), beer and country spirit.
