To protest the inaction of the State Government in the Gumudumaha firing incident that left five civilians dead a month ago, a team of opposition Congress leaders on Tuesday launch a five-day padayatra named ‘Kandhamal Adhikar Yatra’ from the village to Baliguda in Kandhamal district.
PCC president Prasad Harichandan, Bhakta Das, Pradeep Majhi, Jaydev Jena and others started the Padyarat by offering floral tributes and the memorial platform of the five deceased civilians at Gumudumaha.
They reached at Kurttamgarh at around 120.30 pm and then went to Tumudibandha. At both the places, the leaders addressed meetings held in commemoration of the five deceased.
The party leaders would spend the night at Tumudibandha and resume the Yatraon Wednesday. The Yatra would be culminated at Baliguda on August 13.
It may be noted that five tribals, including two women and a 15-month-old girl child, had allegedly been killed crossfire between SOG Jawans and Maoists in a jungle near Gumudumaha on July 9.
“When a month has elapsed, no action has been taken against the wrong doers. Besides, we will make tribals know about their rights that Congress had given them and the party is still with them,” said a Congress leader.
