Odisha has registered significant improvement in the health sector with the maternal mortality rate (MMR) dropping from 235 in 2011-13 to 168 per lakh in 2015-17 as per the latest Sample Registration System (SRS) Report.

In fact, between the two latest survey periods i.e. SRS 2014-2016 to SRS 2015-2017, Odisha has recorded 12 point decline in MMR, which is the 2nd highest in the country after Rajasthan ( 13 point).

Special provisions under the SAMMPurNA strategy of the Government played a vital role in the achievement. SAMMPurNA has a budgetary allocation of over Rs  300 crore.

Under the strategy, maternity waiting homes have been set up to promote institutional delivery and incentive of Rs  1,000 is given to pregnant women to come to hospitals for delivery andRs  500 to go back home after delivery and treatment.

All Government facilities provide free services for institutional delivery including operation cost as well as blood charges.
