“My wife underwent caesarean section (CS) and gave birth to our child. Minutes later, the doctors informed us that both the mother and baby were doing well. But an hour later, they asked to me arrange blood. Again they came to me and pressed me to get blood immediately. later, the nursing home officials told me in the evening that my wife was dead,” said Amulya Hati.

Champabati, who was in the final stages of her pregnancy, had been admitted to the nursing home on Wednesday afternoon.

While police have begun investigations into the allegation, the body was handed over to the family after conducting autopsy on Thursday.

However, authorities of the private nursing home were not available for comments.

Meanwhile, the District lawyers’ Association has come out in support of the deceased and demanded cancellation of the registration of the nursing home.

“A delegation of the Sambalpur District lawyers’ Association would meet the DMET demanding cancellation of registration of nursing homes which do not have adequate infrastructure,” association president Pramod Das said.
