The Janardana Pujari Matru Mangal Kendra (JP maternity centre) situated in the heart of the Sambalpur town and catering to the needs of both poor and elite groups of the locality for child birth and child care is now not in good health.
This exclusive health care unit for child birth, at one point of time, was a centre of attraction but due to shortage of doctors, people are turning back to it. Since it is a maternity centre, at least a Gynaecology specialist and a child specialist are badly necessary here. But the present situation is that only MBBS doctor Purnima Hota is in charge of the centre that disheartens the people and the patients. This centre was treated as a great institution due to presence of the many specialist doctors including Dr Narayani Panda, Dr Madhuri Purohit, Dr Byasadev Hota and others. But now doctors are being relieved from this centre without substitutes. The result being only a MBBS doctor without any specialization is managing the entire show who is not competent enough to handle the complicated cases.
