Spilling of pellets on roads increases mishaps

PNS

The Champua police in Keonjhar district have registered a case against JSPl Barbil head G Suresha under Section 160 of IPC on the charges of endangering the personal safety of the people on the road due to improper transporting of pellets.

Sources reveals that pellets are lying scattered on the road by the pellet-laden trucks due to reckless driving and improper loading. Accidents are occurring frequently as it is not possible to put on the brakes of the vehicle when they are passing over the scattered pellets. Earlier a hue and cry was raised by Joda when accidents occurred regularly due to scattering of pellets on the Joda-Bamebari road connecting National Highway-20.

At that time, although Joda police had asked the concerned agencies to cooperate and educate the tipper drivers not to spill the pellets on the road but it had no effect. But finally  police initiated action against the exporters when  on February 8, 2018 night  Keonjhar district SP Rajesh Pandit posted the hazard of pellets in Twitter after observing  a 100-metre stretch of pellets laying scattered over NH-20 near the Naradpur High School under the Champua PS .

The pellets had fallen from trucks and caused frequent accidents at that place.

Police sources said that though materials are transported by the drivers it is the primary responsibility of the factory owners to ensure that pellets are not spilled from trucks but here factory owners think their job is finished after the materials are loaded on the trucks and delivered.

Police have also registered a case against an unknown drivers and owners on the issue. After the action on factory owners, it is hoped that accident due pellets spilling on the road will decline.

later, The Pioneer had tried to contact Suresha to know his views. Sources close to him said they have assured the district administration that henceforth the problem would be controlled at the loading point so that permission of loading would be given to trucks, there would be good packing system and dilapidated vehicles would not be given permission so as to avoid spillage of pellets.
