KRUSHNA CHANDRA PANDA

DG of Police Prakash Mishra during his whirlwind tour of Ganjam district attended a galaxy of functions besides discussing with intellectuals on various issues pertaining to law and order situation in the district.

Mishra inaugurated the newly-established IPS Mess in the premises of the SP’s office and visited the house of martyr Manmohan Mishra and held talks with his family members.

The intellectuals appraised the DGP about the current law and order situation in the district in general and Brahmapur city in particular. Mishra held several rounds of discussions with the SPs, DIG and other officers about the measures taken to control the increasing crimes in the district.

The DGP laid the foundation-stone of the proposed Sadar police station building at Ankushpur and met the family of martyr Sushant Kumar Gouda. He also inaugurated a 60-seat hostel for the Reserve Battalions personnel at Ambapua on the outskirts of the city.

At a Press conference, Mishra said the police would keep a strict vigil on the chit fund companies and similar non-banking institutions. He instructed the local police to identify these companies and examine thoroughly their licences and other documents to detect the irregularities committed by them.

He said the vacant posts of various police stations would be filled up and women and child desks in the police stations would be strengthened. Currently, there are 537 posts of Sub-Inspectors of Police lying vacant in the State and while filling these posts, priority would be given to suitable women candidates, he said.

There is a proposal for introduction of Commissionerate of Police system in Brahmapur in future, for which a population cluster of 10 lakh is required to satisfy its eligibility, the DGP said. The different geographical regions to be included in the territorial ambit of the proposed commissionerate are under examination, he informed.

The Government is likely to place a draft Bill on the proposed Special Police Act for Odisha in the coming Assembly session, he hoped. The State Police website would be updated soon, he added.

Mishra claimed that Odisha would be a Maoist-free State soon. He made an appeal top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda to shun violence and join the mainstream which would be good for him.
