The Samajwadi Party State Committee on Monday urged Governor SC Jamir to direct the State Government to provide 27 per cent reservation to Other Backward Castes (OBC) in admission and employment in various sectors. The party also demanded monthly unemployment allowance to the jobless youths.
A delegation of the party led by State president Rabi Behera submitted a memorandum to the Governor requesting him to take quick action in the issue.
The memorandum alleged that the State has failed to implement the 27-per cent reservation policy in all State-sponsored universities and colleges. The State has not taken any serious steps for inclusion of the Odisha Reservation of Vacancies Act 2008 in the IX Schedule of the Constitution.
Besides, the party demanded Residential Model Schools and Vocational Training Centres in each district headquarters to provide best of education and skill training to OBC people to face the challenges of the expanding job markets. It also demanded setting up of a State OBC Finance Corporation to provide cheaper loans to the youths for self-employment.
