Sonepur waterlogging points to poor drainage

PNS

Incessant rains in the past 48 hours have left large swathes of the district headquarters township under water, exposing the poor condition of the town’s sewerage and drainage network.

Each time it rains, the localities get waterlogged despite repeated claims by the civic body authorities about putting in place a proper sewerage system in Sonepur.

Ward No 2 of Sonepur Muncipality remains inundated with storm water. The civic body spends funds generously each year to put to an end to the town’s waterlogging problem but poor implementation of drainage and storm water disposal makes the matter worse.

“Drainage system is a complete failure in Sonepur. There is no dearth of funds. But the authorities lack the mindset for their judicious use,” said Manas Ranjan Mishra, a local resident.
