The capital city has drawn attention for being emerging as a hub for technical education and healthcare and an IT investment region backed by the Government’s progressive IT policy, said Smart City Project Nodal Officer Bhabani Shankar Chaini at a programme held at the SOA University here on Saturday.
The programme, which marked the launch of a Smart City lab in the university, was part of an initiative by the BMC to encourage students to join the Smart City campaign in the social media.
Urging the students to join the social media campaign and share their innovative ideas to make Bhubaneswar the most beautiful city to live in, Chaini said if the city wins the Smart City tag, it would get global attention with top notch companies willing to invest here.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Amit Banerjee pointed out that the varsity had already taken several steps to compliment Bhubaneswar’s efforts to earn the Smart City status. He said the varsity has made paperless communication a must in all its campuses which had also been declared as tobacco-free zones. The campuses were provided with wi-fi facility as well.
“Streetlights in the campuses are being powered with solar panels while the IMS and Sum Hospital follows a solid waste management protocol”, he added.
