Energy Secretary Hemant Sharma has said the State Government would implement the Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHGYA), a flagship programme of the Union Government in the power sector in a time-bound manner.

Sharma briefed about it at the State-level Standing Committee (SlSC), which approved the projects.

Sharma said that the SAUBHAGYA provides for financial support to the Discoms for service connections and last-mile connectivity for the remaining un-electrified households in both rural and urban areas in the country estimated at Rs 250 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, respectively.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi chaired the meeting, which favoured electrification to be taken up in a ‘Saturation Mode’.

Under the scheme, Rs 3,000 per household towards service connection and Rs 1,500 per household towards last-mile connectivity (lT extension) wherever required are only included.

Thus, out of Rs 4,500 per household to be provided under the scheme, Rs 2,700 shall be borne by the Central Government and Rs 1,800 by the State Government.

According to sources, over 71 lakh households have been provided electricity while 17.26 lakh new households would be provided the facility. The projects require Rs 3,325 crore with the Central Government and State Government shares being in the ratio of 60:40.

Once the State-level Standing Committee approves the projects, they would be sent to the Union Government for its approval and sanction.

After the sanction, the project works would be taken up in a time-bound manner, said sources.
