'Slow justice delivery a curse for democracy'

PNS

In spite of the best brains available in judiciary, legislature and executive, the three pillars of democracy, why the judgment delivery system of our country is slow, questioned NIT, Rourkela Director Sunil Sarangi at east zone conference on Judicial Reforms and Nyaya Yatra organised by the Sundargarh Society for Fast Justice at the behest of Fast Justice, Mumbai here on Saturday.

The process for fast justice must begin as a part of our judicial system, said Sarangi, but he cautioned that while doing so we should not corrupt our legal disk with virus from Afghanistan or Pakistan.

Common interest cases should be cobbled together to complete the process of law and justice delivery within a time bound frame work, he said. He also made a comparative study of the judgment delivery systems prevalent in the United States and India and asked the activists of Fast Justice whether we can simplify our legal systemIJ

Society for Fast Justice, Sundargarh president Baidyanath Mishra in his key note address stressed on time bound justice delivery as a key component for judicial reforms. He urged the Society for Fast Justice to act as pressure group to bring in change in the judicial domain of our country. Earlier, he welcomed the delegates from West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha to the first of the five series Nyaya Yatra workshops being held in different parts of the country. The Nyaya Yatra will commence from Rajghat, New Delhi from January 30 and culminate at Jantarmantar in March, 2016.

Mumbai Society for Fast Justice president Rajendra Thacker said the objective of Nyaya Yatra is to generate public opinion and pressurize the concerned agencies to bring in judicial reforms. The suppressive British legal system introduced in the country centuries back is still at work. With other two pillars of democracy having weakened, judiciary is the only pillar with a silver line of hope, he said.

Journalist Manoranjan Das and Sunil Mishra spoke. While  SFFJ, Sundargarh trustee Durga Das Toppo moderated the inaugural session and the other trustee Ananta Narayan Sahoo proposed the vote of thanks.

later, the workshop on Nyaya Yatra was conducted in pre and post lunch sessions where rights activist and national convener, Forum for Fast Justice Pravin Patel was the resource person. Views of the delegates were compiled for discussion in the next workshop. Society for Fast justice, Chhattisgarh joint secretary Mamata Sharma choreographed the programme schedule of both the sessions.
