The Commissionerate Police on Monday detained SlB group CMD Bairiganjan Das for allegedly duping thousands of people in the name of chit fund. Das is accused of committing `10-crore fraud.
Some people in the capital city caught hold of Das who had gone underground for more than a year since the Crime Branch and the CBI started investigation into the chit fund scam.
The people handed over Das to Nayapalli police officials who are now interrogating him.
Das was also the editor of an English daily and an Odia daily and did not pay salary to the employees for months.
Meanwhile, sources said three different cheating cases were lodged at three different police stations in the city against Das.
