In a twist in the death of a minor girl in the Balugaon area of Khordha district on Saturday, police on Sunday arrested the sister-in-law of the deceased for allegedly killing her.
Earlier, the victim’s sister-in-law had alleged that a youth of the locality had murdered the girl as the latter spurned his approach of love for her.
Khordha SP Ajay Pratap Swain said a dispute was prevailing between the deceased Sibani Behera and her sister-in-law Kaveri Behera as the former used to frequently take potshots at Kaveri for not bringing enough dowries and for eloping with her brother.
To take revenge, Kaveri killed Sibani by slitting her throat with a knife and later blamed a youth of the village for the death, Swain said.
The incident took place in evening at Ganganagar village under the Balugaon police station when the 17-year-old girl was studying in her house.
