Union Environment, Forest & Climate Change Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday informed that the Centre would send a committee of experts to Odisha to provide technical assistance in dousing the raging wildfire in the Similipal National Park of Mayurbhanj district and nearby areas.

The team would be sent to give technical advice and help to the State Forest Department in effective management of forest fire incidents in the region, said Javadekar.  The experts would work in coordination with the deployed teams for early and effective dousing of fires, the Minister said, adding that he would review situation with the Central team on a daily basis. Earlier in the day, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and BJP MPs from Odisha met Javadekar in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum seeking his personal intervention in containment of wildfires.
