Short-range missile tested

India on Sunday conducted a maiden test of a short-range and quick-reaction surface-to-air missile from the ITR (Integrated Test Range) at Chandipur near here.

The missile, which is indigenously-built, was tested from a canister from the lC-III at about 12.44 pm. The weapon’s test was meant to evaluate performance of the canister version as well as its propulsion, said ITR Director Dr Binay Kumar Das, adding that they were successful.

The newly-developed missile has a range of about 20 km.

It may be noted that from the same base the DRDO had conducted the Israeli-made quick-range surface-to-air missile SPYDER last month.
