S'gopal-Puri rly line doubling to be over by June

PNS

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) authorities have told the State Government that the doubling work of the Sakshigopal-Puri rail line would be completed by June-end.

Chief Secretary GC Pati visited the newly- constructed double-line, Malatipatpur station and tourist complex at Puri on Wednesday. ECoR General Manager Rajiv Vishnoi accompanied him.

The railway officials told Pati that the rail line has already been constructed and is being given finishing touches now. The line would be completed by end of this month.

Once completed, the rail line would increase line capacity of Khordha Road-Puri and facilitate running of more trains to meet the tourist flow during Nabakalebara.

The Chief Secretary’s visit to the ongoing projects assumes significance as the Nabakalebar festival is fast approaching. He expressed displeasure over slow pace of infrastructure projects in Puri.

“I have asked all departments concerned and agencies to complete the projects by June-end. The district Collector has been requested to conduct regular assessment of the work,” Pati told the media .

Slow progress of several projects like construction of Malatipatpur bus terminal, improvement of drainage and sewerage systems, creation of accommodation facilities, beautification of railway station and construction of roads has been a cause of concern for the administration.
