Yet another woman torture case has come to the fore in Sundargarh district where a woman lecturer has been admitted in a hospital after being mentally tortured by principals of junior and degree streams of the Ilias Memorial Panchyat College under the Bhasma police station.
According to a complaint lodged in the Rourkela Town police station here, Kalpana Behera (30), a lecturer in Education Department of the Junior Ilias Memorial Panchayat College, was being tortured regularly by the college’s +2 stream Principal Manoj Chowdhury and
+3 stream
Pincipal Biswanath Tirpathy. She was staying in the girls’ hostel of the college. The two principals used to rebuke her in filthy languages and were not allowing her to go outside the college. They were even terming her as characterless. On Wednesday night, while Kalpana was talking to someone on her mobile outside the hostel gate, both the principals came to the hostel and asked the hostel peon to lock the gate. After waiting for long outside the hostel, Kalpana called one of her colleagues and with her help jumped over the wall to enter into the hostel.
Harassed Kalpana went unconscious at around 11 pm. The hostel authorities immediately informed Kalpana's uncle Gobind Sahu about her illness. She was first rushed to Sundargarh hospital and then shifted to the Ispat General Hospital as her condition deteriorated. Her condition is stated to be stable now.
Sahu lodged an FIR against both the principals in the Town police station here. But the town police forwarded the case to the Bhasma PS on Friday.
