MAlAY RAY

A 24-year-old tribal girl, after losing  a  hand while working in a factory about nine years ago, has been running  from  pillar to post as she has not  yet got the compensation amount from her employer. The DlC court had ordered  the  employer to pay Rs 2,52,435  amount to the victim  girl.

Ashrita lakra, daughter of  Sukra lakra, a resident of  Pandratoli under Rajgangpur  police station, while was 15  years’ old, was working in a Bileigarh-based stone crusher  inside the premises of  Radhakrushna Rice Mill with  a meager monthly salary of Rs 2,500.

On February 23, 2008,  while Ashrita was working  along with her colleague Santi  Minz, Ashrita’s saree was  dragged in a conveyor  belt  of a stone crusher following  which her right hand went  inside machine and she was  critically injured.

later at the hospital, Ashrita had to get her right hand amputated. After 15 days  of  treatment, she should have  been sent to her house but she  was kept inside factory premises.

The victim girl had not  lodged FIR in police station since owner of factory Adesh  Sharma had assured the family members of the victim girl  to provide the expenses  amount towards her treatment  and also to provide her compensation.

However, Sharma did not provide any compensation.

Finding no other alternative, poor Ashrita lodged a complaint before the DlC, Rourkela on July 14, 2009 and  the DlC court had registered  a case.

The DlC had issued  notice to factory owner Sharma  at that time to put his views  but he had  not turned up  before  the DlC court. The court finally  had announced its judgment on December 7, 2012 and had  ordered Sharma to pay Rs 2,52,435 to Ashrita and had  also ordered to pay the  amount within 30 days otherwise the  compensation amount of Rs 2,52,435 along with extra 12 per cent interest will be collected.

But after the judgment,  four and a half years have passed, but Adesh was yet to receive the compensation.

Ashrita recently met Assistant labour Commissioner,  Rourkela and requested him  to  give her justice.

“We are now contemplating to do certificate case  against that factory owner  since he has not provided  compensation amount to that  victim girl,” said AlC, Rourkela GR Tudu.
