After heavy exchange of fire in the Satkosia Sanctuary under the Purunagarah police limits in Angul on Sunday last, the SOG along with DVF and CRPF destroyed a transit camp of the Maoists.
DIG NCR Division Y Koyal and district SP R Pandit told this in a Press conference here. The combined forces are conducting a combing operation in the dense forests.
The security personnel also seized many articles used by the Maoists, including literature, Walky Talkies, Radio, uniform and arms and ammunitions.
The Maoists fired with INSAS, SlR and 303 weapons, while the SOG retaliated with firing from AK-47 launched UBGl.
According to sources, the Maoists are using Satkosia Sanctuary increasingly as a transit hub. Already one group of Maoists passed through Angul and went to Jharkhand area in October last. The group with which exchange of fire occurred is led by Ajaya alias Vijay alias Kunu Dehury of SDS Division. His group consists of about 25 Maoists.
