The Town police on Wednesday busted a sex racket operating at Naktiguda Colony here and arrested four persons, including a middleman, in this connection.
The police also detained five women of Kolkata, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda, who were brought here by the middlemen. The women’s statement would be recorded under Section 164 CrPC after medical examination, said sources.
Kalahandi SP Battula Gangadhar said that the main accused, P Jaipalam alias Thalam, a native of Trivendrum in Kerala, was operating the sex racket by hiring a rented house in the colony for the last couple of months.
“After receiving a complaint, a team was formed and a raid was conducted at 12.30 am. Nine mobiles phones, three bikes, liquor bottles and Rs 2,500 were seized.” The house owner, who is absconding, will also be arrested, the SP added.
The four arrestees were forwarded to a local court under Section 457 of IPC and Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act 1956. They were sent to judicial custody after their bail petitions were rejected, said a police official.
