PNS

A septuagenarian widow Prabhabati Patra, a resident of Ayeba under Kendrapada Sadar police limits, on Tuesday staged fast unto death in front of the district Collector’s office. She demanded action to restrict a person who forcibly encroached upon her agriculture land. According to Patra, after the demise of her husband, her nephew Agani Patra, who was separated from her, forcibly encroached upon her agriculture land. He was raising crops in the land for the last three years.

Her repeated appeals to Agani not to cultivate her land only fell in his deaf ear. On the contrary, Agani threatened her of dire consequences if she protested. She also said that she had filed an FIR against Agani at Kendrapada Sadar Police Station but in vain.

She said that she was leading a life in fear and poverty. She maintained that though she had brought the matter to the notice of the district Collector in the grievance cell on January 5 and the Collector had asked the SP to look into the matter, but she was yet to get justice.
