Send all-party team to U'khand: Niranjan to CM

PNS

Former PCC president Niranjan Patnaik on Friday urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to send an all-party delegation to Uttarakhand and draw out a plan for contributing to the reconstruction efforts in that State.

In a letter to the CM, Patnaik urged him to stand by the people of Uttrakhand, which has gone through a major loss of lives and heritage sites. “In the past when Odisha needed help many States were generous in extending their services,” Patnaik reminded the CM.

“The State (Odisha) should adopt a few villages; maybe we can help in repair of a stretch of road or a few bridges and consider sending some heavy machines,” Patnaik stated in the letter.

Patnaik also said that the temptation to be contended by sending some blankets or used clothes should be avoided. Besides, the apprehension is that that the blankets would be like the low quality stuff being distributed by the State Government, which would not be useful in the cold conditions of Uttarakhand, he added.
