nKendrapada Sub-Collector Niranjan Behera clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC at Pattamundai on Saturday as more than 10 persons sustained injuries, following a clash between two different groups in ward 11 over a contract work on Friday.
According to sources, for the last three days, tension has been continuing in the area between two groups over erecting a school boundary wall in ward No.11.
Following the clash, hundreds of irate locals, including women gheraoed the Pattamundai police station and staged road blockade in several places of Pattamundai township by burning tyres and barricading the road.
The Pattamundai SDPO along with the Tehsildar alomg with police forces rushed to the spot to pacify the agitators and Section 144 CrPC was clamped in the township for an indefinite period from 2 pm on Saturday to avoid further flare-up in the situation.
Meanwhile, a peace committee meeting was held on Saturday evening under the chairmanship of Sub Collector of Kendrapada, where the Additional SP, SDPO, Pattamundai , IIC, Pattamundai, Tehsildar, BDO and representatives of the rival groups participated, informed official sources.
