Second traffic police station in city soon

Keeping in view the rising number of vehicles and commuters in the State capital and to streamline the traffic management system, the Commissionerate police would be setting up a second Traffic police station at Chadrashekharpur here.

A proposal for this has been sent to the Government for approval, said Commissioner of Police YB Khurania on Saturday. The police station would be set up at an estimated cost of the Rs 1.98 crore. The expenses for it would be borne by the Commissionerate police.

The police station, which would function under an Inspector rank-officer, would have 171 staffs. It would have two jeeps and 15 motorbikes for the personnel.

The areas of eight police stations of the city including Khandagiri and Tamando would be under its jurisdiction.

Presently, the Traffic police station at AG Square is overburdened as it has to look after traffic in the whole city.

The new station is expected to streamline the traffic flow and lead to strict enforcement of the rules to check the spiralling number of road mishaps.

At present, the city's vehicular population stands at over 10 lakh. There are 57 traffic junctions in the city out of which only 19 are operated electronically.
