As many as 175 Zilla Parishad (ZP) zones would go to polls in 65 blocks across 29 districts in the second phase of the three-tier panchayat polls on Wednesday. A total of 53, 62, 814 voters would exercise their franchise in 1,386 panchayats having 18, 581 wards in this phase. State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary Rabindranath Sahu said polling would be held between 7 am to 12 noon.
Meanwhile, the SEC on Tuesday ordered for suspension of Baleswar Sadar BDO Mamata Nayak over irregularities in preparation of the voters’ list. The commission asked the Panchayati Raj Department to relieve her from poll duty with immediate effect.
last week, the BJP had moved the SEC alleging that Nayak illegally added hundreds of names in the voters’ list even after publication of the final list.
