The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking a court-monitored CBI probe into the mega chit fund scam in Odisha. Justices TS Thakur and C Nagappan dismissed the plea filed by Alok Jena on whose petition the apex court had ordered a CBI probe into the scam last year. Sources said the Solicitor General and the Additional Solicitor General, appearing for the CBI, listed out the problems faced by the agency like lack of skilled manpower in probing all matters relating to the scam cases. The CBI had recently moved the court seeking modification of the May 9, 2014 order asking it to take over the entire probe into chit fund scams in West Bengal, Odisha and Assam in which companies, including Saradha, allegedly duped investors of around Rs10,000 crore.
