Journalist of Athagarh on Saturday started wearing black badges during duty times in protest against police inaction against the accused who had assaulted their colleague Santosh Barik on duty in front of the BJD office here.

Ruling BJD workers reportedly attacked Barik as he recorded the incident of black flags shown by local Congress workers to Minister Puspendra Singh Deo and MlA Ranendra Pratap Swain during a rally near Athagarh PS on Wednesday.

Earlier, extending their support to mediapersons, local Bar Association members had stopped normal duty on Friday.

On Saturday, the scribes are covering the Bada Osha of lord Dhabaleswar by wearing black badges. State Utkal Sambadika Sangha president Jimuta Mangaraj has condemned the brutal assault by ruling party members on Barik.

Several other organisations have also condemned police inaction.
