While the Central Government is focusing on developing research works in every field in the country, it is hugely neglected in Odisha as compared to the other States.

The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar has been a victim of negligence. The impact of which has been seen on the research works being conducted in the premiere institute.

The ILS Bhubaneswar, which had played a vital role during the Covid 19 pandemic, is facing huge irregularities in every department starting from development to finance.

While in early years of inspection the institute had made many achievements and was lauded all across the country but now it is in a poor state.

According to sources, the ILS does not have a permanent Director for the last two years, after the demise of the then Director Dr Ajay Parida, a renowned scientist and a Padma Shree awardee.

Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, who is the Director of the Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) at Imphal, Manipur has been posted as Director (Additional Charge), ILS, Bhubaneswar since the death of DrParida.

As Prof Mukherjee stays at IBSD, Imphal, the research works here at ILS have been hugely impacted and the standard of research is deteriorating day by day. According to sources, many previous research works are still pending and new research works are yet to be started.

Besides, some scientists have also resigned from their posts due to the irregularities in the institute. It is also alleged that five technicians were removed from their posts illegally.
