In another such incident that raised question over the safety of children at residential schools in the State, a Class-I student of the Gangala Sevashram in Malkangiri district drowned in a pond on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Amit Kalekura, had gone outside the school premises to defecate in the morning. After defecation, he was cleaning himself in the pond when the tragedy took place.
Getting information, police reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident. The body of the child was sent to the Community Health Centre at Pandripani.
It was alleged that the incident occurred due to negligence on the part of the residential school staffs.
