SUGYAN CHOUDHURY

A workshop on ‘Bhagabad Geeta 2014’ was held here at the premises of Satyasai Complex, Unit-III on Monday with students from as many as 50 High Schools of the State enthusiastically participating in the recitation of the 14th Chapter of the Bhagabad Geeta braving the lashing rain.

The warmth and genial light of the inner atompshere of the event stood in sharp contrast to the fury of rainwaters outside. Top ten students from various schools including thise from Keonjhar and Brahmapur were awarded with citations and certificates.

The workshop culminated in an intellectual discourse presided over by chairman of Swadhyaya Pariwar former bureauceat Prasanna Mishra, who has not only lent his heart and soul but also his purse for this noble mission.

Chief speaker Prof Bedbati Mohanty emphasised on inculcation of moral values and ethical standards among students to remedy the present educational set-up of the country. The need of Geeta is imperative among young learners to enable them to lead a meaningful life, she said.

Swami Akhilananda Saraswati came down heavely upon the present educational system which lacks value-based education and moral standards. He exhorted the students that the birth of lords Krishna and Balaram is symbolic of age-old Indian agrarian culture and cow  rearing (Gopalan), which should not be looked down upon. He called upon the parents that they should not confuse their children that anything foreign is superior to everything Indian.

Dr Bishnu Charan Mishra’s English rendering entitled Sreedhar Subodhini Tika was released on the occasion. Dr Mishra, a surgeon by profession, is a lover of Geeta by choice. The entire event was coordinated by Dr Akshay Mishra and Dr Rajendra Das.
